(Part of the Election, Sovereign Grace, Will, Salvation bible study group.)
One of the main stumbling blocks to accepting the Doctrine of Election, Sovereign Grace Salvation as being true, is the prevalent, mistaken, belief that man, upon hearing the Gospel, has the capacity, capability, to freely choose to accept, believe, in Jesus Christ. That this belief contradicts the teachings of the Bible is overlooked, swept under the rug, or conveniently ignored.
- - "But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."
(1 Corinthians 2:14)
- - "There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God.
They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one."
(Romans 3:10-12)
& Psalms 14:2-3 & 52:2-3
These four verse selections, reinforced by The teachings of Jesus that only those drawn, or given, to Him by the Father can come to Him, clearly show that man is incapable of seeking salvation through his own free will. In fact, according to 1 Co 2:14, natural man considers the Gospel message to be foolishness, and it has no impact upon him.
Then how can man obtain salvation through the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
