Personal serenity is difficult to achieve & maintain. We
often spend a great deal of our time mumbling and grumbling about the way our life is going. We worry and get depressed over things, which we have little, or no, control over. We ask,
"Why me?"
"Why is this happening to me?"
All the worrying, frustration, fear, stress, depression, dissatisfaction, and anger avails
us nothing. They have no effect on the situation; except, that they just make it worse. We cannot find, or seem to hold onto, serenity in our lives.
Life has its low points and its high points. It has times of smooth sailing and rough, stormy seas. We have times of gain and times of loss. Some we have control over; yet, some are beyond our control. Yet, with the proper outlook we can maintain our serenity.
To
everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:
A time to be born,
And a time to die;
A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted;
A time to kill,
And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
And a time to build up;
A time to weep,
And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
And a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones,
And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace,
And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to gain,
And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
And a time to throw away;
A time to tear,
And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
And a time to speak;
A time to love,
And a time to hate;
A time of war,And a time of peace.
(Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8)
What can we do to maintain, or regain, our serenity when we are troubled & worried?
GOD
grant me the serenity to accept
the things I cannot change........
Courage to change the things I can
and the
Wisdom to know the difference.
Reading God's Word, the Holy Bible, can help with our Serenity.
"Why are
you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance."
(Psalm 42:5)
"Cast your burden on the LORD,
And He shall sustain you;"
(Psalm 55:22)
For God Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
So we may boldly say:
"The LORD is my helper;
I will not fear."
(Hebrews 13: 5-6)
"Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on.
Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor
gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you
not of more value than they?"
(Matthew 6: 25-26)
Jesus
said, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not
as the world gives do I give to you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
(John 14: 27)
Jesus
said, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest."
(Matthew 11:28)
May the Peace of the Lord be with you!
