"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among nations, believed on in the world, and received up into glory."
1Timothy 3:16, clearly shows that Jesus is God. The statements 'manifested in the flesh' and 'received up into glory' in Paul's context can only mean Jesus. This is supported by his teachings in 2 Co 13:14 & Col 2:2.
Being a scriptural scholar, Paul knew that there is only one true God, Jehovah (JHVH/YHWH) (the Great I AM). From Paul's teaching Jesus, the Son, is the Great I AM. A fact proved by Jesus' statement in John 8:58,
- - "Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Before Abraham came into being, I AM!"
With that proclamation, clearly understood by the Jews, Jesus announced that He is Jehovah, God. The Jews new exactly what Jesus meant by this statement for in John 8:59 we find,
- - "Then they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and left the Temple."
