On-Board Guidance System

The Indwelling Holy Spirit

The wonders of technology! We now have vehicles equipped with satellite-linked on-board computer guidance systems. They let us know where we are; how to get where we are going; alert us to obstacles in our path and how to avoid them; and, even allow us to call for help if we have problems, or get into trouble. What a great new idea! Or, is it?

Consider
"And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper,
that He may abide with you forever. The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you."

(John 14: 16-17)
"When, however, the Spirit comes,
who reveals the truth about God, he will lead you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own authority, but he will speak of what he hears and will tell you of things to come."

(John 16:13)

Simply amazing! GOD, thought of it first. He has provided every Christian an on-board guidance system, the Holy Spirit! The in-dwelling Holy Spirit guides, leads, assists, teaches, counsels, alerts, and comforts Christians. What an outstanding gift from Our Heavenly Father to His children!

Just as the reception of the on-board computer guidance system in vehicles is subject to static & interference from sun spots, tunnels, over passes, & strong radio transmissions, etc., so also is a Christian’s reception of the Holy Spirit’s assistance. The closer a Christian walks to the worldly ways of life the more static & interference is generated between them and the Spirit’s aid. We know that sin and worldly cares, such as financial woes, job advancement, etc., can also cause such interference. Often Christians need to tune or align themselves to the Spirit’s aid. Reading the Bible, praying, gathering with other members of the body of Christ, and taking time out to just listen to God are all good tools for this re-tuning or alignment. I hesitate to use the term ‘meditation’, since the world has pretty much corrupted its meaning. It is not an easy task to stay completely open to the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul comments on this in Romans 7:15-25. Our worldly flesh is constantly interfering with our spiritual selves. Yet, the more work we put into keeping the lines of communication open, the more aid we receive.

Take the time!
Open yourself to the Holy Spirit!
You will not regret it!
