Jesus
Mediator, High Priest, &
Head of the Church.

Jesus Christ, is the Only Mediator, High Priest & Head of the Church. The interjection of anyone else between God & man has no biblical basis; and, it implies that Jesus is not fully capable of being the mediator, high priest, & head of His church. As we look at each of these titles, or responsibilities, we will see why only Jesus, God Incarnate, has the capability of being the Mediator between God & man, the High Priest of His Church, & the Head of the Christian Church.

Mediator

"For there is one God and one Mediator
between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus-."
(1Ti 2:5)

Mediator is translated from the Greek, mesites, which means a go between, intercessor, a reconciler, a mediator. Basically, one who intervenes between two parties. To be effective, a mediator must understand both sides that he is intervening between. Only Jesus, God Incarnate, who also was the Man, Jesus, is capable of acting as a mediator between Divine nature and human nature. Only Jesus has the ability to reconcile man to God. Only Jesus can act as the intercessor between man & God. No one else is capable to fulfill, or aid in the fulfillment, of the responsibilities of the Office of Mediator.

High Priest

"Therefore in all things it behoved him (Jesus)
to be made like His brothers, that He might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of His people."
(Heb 2:17)

The main duty of the High Priest is to offer the atonement sacrifice for his followers. Jesus did just that. Once, willingly and for all time, Jesus offered Himself as the atonement sacrifice for all those who follow Him. The sin debt of mankind is such that, it required a Divine sacrifice for its remission. No other being was capable of providing and offering the price of man's redemption. Since Jesus' sacrifice paid the sin debt, no other sacrifice is required, and the Office of High Priest for His people is forever filled by Him.

Head of the Church

"-even as Christ is the head of the church-"
(Eph 5:23)
"And He is the Head of the body, the church,
who is the Beginning, the First-born from the dead, that He may be pre-eminent in all things."
(Col 1:18)

We see that the Bible proclaims Jesus as the Head of the Christian Church. No other person, or group of persons is named in God's Word, because no other has the right, ability, perfection, or authority to be the Head of Jesus' Church.

We have seen that the Bible proclaims that Jesus is the only one capable of being the Mediator between God & man, the High Priest of His Church, and the Head of the Church He founded. No one else has the capability of fulfilling these Offices. There are those who proclaim that Jesus must rely on another intermediary between Himself & man. Intentionally, or unintentionally, these groups are proclaiming that, Jesus, God Incarnate, is incapable of fulfilling the duties of Mediator, High Priest, & Head of the Church, without relying on created beings to assist Him. This is not the proclamation of the Bible!

"And He has put all things under His feet
and gave Him to be Head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all."
