This page was originally developed in the wake of hurricane Katrina to help those who were searching for Christian Relief Agency Urls. Sadly, much of the information in the following paragraphs still remains true even after 4 1/2 months. The aid which has been directed to the area by Christian Relief Organizations, & others, has been massive; yet, the needs of those suffering the aftermath of the disaster still remain today. Couple these needs with those of persons who will be effected by future tornadoes, fires, floods, etc., and it is crystal clear that these agencies need our continuing financial support. The Federal Government & Red Cross have continually revealed themselves to be incompetent and unable to adequately manage disasters & the funding they require. Christian Agencies, more often than not, have local congregations and offices, which are better organized & have a better grasp of what and where aid is needed. Additionally, their full time staff are not paid the outrageous salaries that pervade in the private & governmental sectors. Salaries paid out of the money you donate to help the victims. No donation to the Christian Relief agencies is too small. Consider, the amount of money that would be raised if every Christian family would donate $5.00 a month for a year! I realize that in a lot of Countries this would represent an impossible sum to be able to afford; yet any donation is better than nothing at all. Let's show the World that we not only talk the talk, but we also walk the walk!
The devastation left behind by hurricane Katrina staggers the mind. The pictures of the scope of the damage are mind-numbing. The vast majority of the survivors have lost everything. Most of the homes, & pieces of homes, left standing by the hurricane will have to be leveled. In a lot of the areas, the survivors have also lost their jobs for a prolonged period. Some have lost them permanently. There is no electricity, telephone, running water, sewage treatment, etc. Those who survived have been reduced to a primitive living condition, that hasn't been seen in those areas for over 100 years. Many still do not even have any type of shelter. They are hungry, thirsty, & scared. Some are hopeless. The threat of wide-spread disease looms in the near future.
Most of the survivors of hurricane Katrina are unable to evacuate due to damaged, destroyed, & or blocked highways. Also, the inability to purchase gasoline restricts their movements. Mass shelters are being set up and more will be constructed in the near future. The survivors need help! This help won't be needed for just a couple of weeks; it will be needed for months to come!! The Government, in its bungling way, will provide aid. However, as Christians, God shows us our responsibility in 1 John 3:17.
The survivors of Katrina are in desperate need of the basic necessities to sustain life - water, food, shelter. FEMA is already overwhelmed, as are the State Governments of the area. Disaster relief agencies are going to be relied upon to make a significant difference in the welfare of those who survived hurricane Katrina. They, of course, have to rely upon getting the funds they need to operate, from our donations. As followers of Jesus Christ, we need to respond and keep responding in the coming weeks and months. A donation, no matter how large - or small, will aid those who have suffered so much.
Because the scam, & rip-off artists, are already hard at work trying to steal money from the survivors of the hurricane. I am listing the web links to several well-established, reputable, Christian Disaster Aid Agencies below, where you can safely donate money. I realize, that the Red Cross, a secular agency, is the #1 relief organization in this Country; but, after the fiasco, and their gross mismanagement, which followed 9/11, I, personally, will not donate to them . Something that is not readily known in this Country, is that the Salvation Army and the Southern Baptist Convention are this Country's #2 and #3 disaster relief providers. They are already on the scene helping the survivors of Katrina.
Please, make a donation now & remember the survivors of hurricane Katrina in the future. Aid will be needed for months and so will donations.
Please, remember these people and all of the aid workers in your prayers.
